Poem

your breasts

Original in Spanish

Your breasts, my beauty, are like twin hillsrising beside the plainof your belly,

Your breasts, my beauty, are like warm and fertile loaveskneaded by my hands,a poet’s

Your breasts are, my beauty, cool springs of pure waterready to slake my thirst, sweet combs of the beesoverflowing with honey for my mouth, immense summits of firewhere my longings bloom

Two rosebudsthat have sprung up over snow, are your breasts

And they are—at the same time—inexhaustible manna and startled quailin the desert of my solitude, and the juicy grapesof the promised land
