microstory

“I want to dream of me
watching myself sleep”

Mitch Hedberg

A man lay down on his bed and fell asleep. As he slept, he dreamed that he was in his bed sleeping and dreaming that his dreams were as real as his waking life. He dreamed that in his dreams he saw as many colors, heard as many sounds, spoke as fluently, and loved as intensely as in his waking life. He dreamed that he was unable to distinguish between his sleep and his waking life, to the point of not knowing when he was asleep dreaming and when awake living reality. And the word reality lost its meaning. Then he dreamed that he woke from his dream, and that he decided never to sleep again, so as to avoid dreaming. And he stayed awake forever, in his dream.
